Gun violence: A public health issue

OHSU is a community of people dedicated to healing others and advancing scientific knowledge. With our country in the midst of a gun violence crisis, OHSU, along with Portland State University, the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health and a broad array of community stakeholders joined together to address gun violence as a public health issue. OHSU as a Public Corporation

OHSU as a Public Corporation

Since becoming a public corporation in 1995, OHSU has grown substantially – serving more patients, educating more students and conducting more research than ever before.

OHSU as a Public Corporation: Launching a period of growth and programmatic excellence explains how the change in governance model from a state agency to a public corporation allowed OHSU to expand its missions while also taking greater responsibility for its own decisions.

In this report, OHSU President Joe Robertson, M.D., M.B.A., explores a number of essential questions: What was OHSU like before the change? What conditions made change necessary? What alternatives were considered? What benefits has the change brought? What does the future hold?
