While VirtuOHSU was designed with the needs of graduate (residency) and continuing medical learners in mind, it also enhances the learning environment for the training of undergraduate students in the medical degree program.
The centerpiece of the new design are 10 stations equipped as operating bays to give learners the opportunity to gain skills in a real-world simulation. With state-of-the art equipment, students can observe, analyze and share as they learn the ins and outs of everything from ultrasound to minimally-invasive surgical techniques.
In August, $3.2 million in renovations were completed in training spaces in Richard Jones Hall. The repurposed space has taken the name of the facility that was previously housed in the Library Building: VirtuOHSU. Part of the OHSU Simulation program, the new design includes a total footprint of around 7,000 square feet of wet/dry lab and classroom space which can be configured into separate spaces using three movable walls.
