YOUR M.D. Origins

The quick look

Changing the landscape of health

YOUR M.D. will effectively prepare the M.D. graduate for residency training and professional practice to best serve and meet the needs of society in the 21st century.

YOUR M.D. competencies

Oregon and OHSU are at the center of the evolution underway in health care. Our state leaders are implementing health care reform at a scale that may prove to be a model for the nation.

OHSU faculty, staff and students are partnering with the state on many innovative initiatives, as well as leading our own. This dynamic evolutionary environment provides unique learning opportunities for students.

This spirit of innovation and evolution is a driving force behind our YOUR M.D. curriculum.

YOUR MD Students

Why a new curriculum?

Our curriculum prepares physicians to be leaders in the health care delivery and discovery environment that is rapidly changing.

Embracing innovative teaching methods, our curriculum emphasizes the development of knowledge, skills, and behaviors most needed by 21st-century physicians, including interprofessional teamwork and communication, data interpretation, use of information technology and quality science.

YOUR M.D. provides opportunities to explore individual interests in addition to the core curriculum. All students learn about the unique health care needs of rural and underserved communities, as well as complete a "deep dive" scholarly project prior to graduation.

When did it start?

The new curriculum launched in August 2014 shortly after the opening of the Collaborative Life Sciences Building (CLSB) located in Portland's vibrant South Waterfront Central District.

This inspiring building is home to new classrooms and learning studios, state-of-the-art research laboratories, student lounges, advanced imaging technology, and a 20,000-square-foot interprofessional simulation facility.
