PA Students Recognized for Their Volunteer Activities

05/23/12  Portland, Ore.

Five PA students were nominated for four categories at the 7th Annual OHSU Student Volunteer Recognition and Awards Ceremony on May 17, 2012.

The Student Volunteer Recognition and Awards Ceremony arose as a way to recognize and celebrate the hard work, generosity, and compassion displayed by OHSU students across schools, campuses, and programs. The OHSU Student Council Volunteer Awards Committee noted that it was extremely difficult to choose the winners for the awards because all of the candidates have an amazing scope of activities that prove how vested they are in improving their communities.

The following PA students were nominated for the following categories:

  • Global/International Service Award: Recognizes a student who has done exceptional work in research, education, public service, or clinical service at an international level.
    • Megan Erikson
  • Community Outreach & Clinical Service Award: Recognizes a student who demonstrates outstanding commitment to service the community and enhancing the health and/or quality of life of others.
    • Julia Frey
  • Forging the Way Award: Recognizes the hard work of a group of students who have collectively volunteered to change their community.
    • Kristin Stone & Trudy Doyle
  • Volunteer of the Year Award: Recognizes a student who has demonstrated a sustained mission toward service. The Volunteer of the Year will have participated in service in at least two of the above areas and exemplifies OHSU's service vision to the community and beyond.
    • Julia Frey
    • Briana Rivera

The only award categories for which a PA student was not nominated was the Educator Award which recognizes a student who demonstrates commitment to mentoring, presenting or teaching.

None of the PA students received the award for which they were nominated but it was still a great honor that they were candidates for these awards.
