Clinical Year

All students participate in clinical training activities in a variety of settings at program-provided sites. In keeping with the mission of the program, a significant number of clinical training sites are located outside of metropolitan Portland, many in rural and medically underserved sites throughout Oregon.  Supervised clinical experiences will provide opportunities for students to acquire the competencies needed for entry into clinical practice.  Rotations will occur in outpatient and hospital settings, emergency departments and the operating room. Under the supervision of clinical preceptors, students will see patients of all ages seeking care for acute and chronic medical and psychiatric conditions, prenatal and obstetric care, and surgical (including pre-, intra-, and post-operative care) and emergent conditions.

All rotations are 4 weeks in length.  A minimum of 1,760 clock hours of supervised clinical practice is required for graduation.  Clinical experiences in Obstetrics/Maternity Care are integrated into the clinical year curriculum in primary care rotations and during callbacks.
