Fellowship in the AACR Academy honors scientists “whose major scientific contributions have propelled significant innovation and progress against cancer,” the association says. Fellows are nominated and elected through a peer-review process conducted by existing fellows.

Three years ago, Knight Cancer Institute Director Brian Druker, M.D., joined the AACR Academy’s inaugural class of 106 fellows, a number symbolic of the organization’s age. Since then, the association has elected 11 people each year in honor of the 11 scientists and physicians who founded AACR in 1907.

The AACR will induct its 2016 class of fellows at the AACR Annual Meeting 2016, to be held in New Orleans, April 16-20.
