Biography
Dr. Jacobs received his Ph.D. in 2010 in Electrical Engineering from the Oregon Health & Science University Division of Biomedical Engineering where he worked with Eric Wan and Dawn Konrad-Martin. The title of his dissertation is “Inference of physiologic processes using otoacoustic emissions.” He received his Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering from Swarthmore College in 1995 and his Master's degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1998. He has prior industry experience helping to start Dexcom Inc. and iSense Corporation (now owned by Bayer Corp) and is a founder in several other companies. He is also currently a research investigator at the National Center for Rehabilitative Auditory Research at the Portland VA Medical Center.
Research Interests
Dr. Jacobs’ research interests fit generally within three categories: (1) ubiquitous computing for delivering home-based health care solutions, (2) hearing science, specifically hearing aid signal processing and use of otoacoustic emissions for hearing diagnostics, and (3) medical device development geared primarily towards diabetes and sensory loss.
