Xiao Lan Chang

Xiao Lan graduated from Oregon State University in 2014 with a degree in Biochemistry and Biophysics. She is currently a member of Dr. Jonah Sacha's lab where her primary research aims to prevent human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) from entering and hijacking the immune cells for viral replication. Specifically, she is using antibodies to block critical cell surface receptors required for HIV cell entry. She is very excited that her current work will contribute to an ongoing project in the Sacha Lab that aims to use non-human primate (NHP) models to replicate Timothy Brown's (also known as the Berlin Patient) decade-long functional HIV cure. Aside from her current work, she is interested in translational research related to gene therapy and exosome therapy. Outside of lab, Xiao Lan loves to travel, eat, run, take photos, work on jigsaw puzzles, and spend time with family/friends.

Rick Rollins

Rick is a graduate of Portland State University and has been part of OHSU and the Portland VA Medical Center since 2011. In that time, he has researched obesity, hemophilia, and DNA repair. His curiosity for disease characterization and prevention led to his current work describing epigenetic changes in breast cancer - the hope being to facilitate early detection and bolster patients' therapeutic response. Rick is a member of the Paul Spellman lab and collaborates extensively within the Knight Cancer Institute's Cancer Early Detection Advanced Research Center (CEDAR). A longtime Portland resident, Rick roasts his own coffee and complains about traffic.
