Fellowship Training

OHSU is the state’s only academic health center, drawing students, scientists, and patients from across the country and globe. We serve more than a quarter of a million patients each year with innovative care and treatment models based on the latest knowledge available. OHSU researchers continue to make breakthrough discoveries in an environment that fosters unique multidisciplinary and collaborative approaches to the most intractable problems in human health.

The Department of Diagnostic Radiology at OHSU is committed to training the next generation of radiologists to continue advancing the role of imaging in clinical care and research. Approximately 140,000 examinations are performed in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology each year. In addition, the affiliated Portland VA Medical Center and Shriners Children’s Hospital are co-located on the Marquam Campus, increasing the department’s exposure to a wide variety of clinical pathologies. The department’s advanced facilities and expert mentors give radiologists-in-training the skills required to become well-rounded clinicans and leaders in academic biomedical imaging.

Concluding Interventional Radiology Fellowship

The Vascular and Interventional Radiology Fellowship, which has trained over 100 interventionalists, will continue until June 30, 2020 (the last Match will be in 2018). VIR Fellows participate in the clinical and procedural care of a broad range of patients and conditions, including oncology, peripheral vascular disease, venous disease, aortic disease, biliary disease, genitourinary diseases, neurologic diseases amenable to interventions, trauma, solid organ transplantation, pediatric patients, drainages, and alimentary access. Clinical IR rotations are divided between OHSU and the Portland VA hospital (the Doernbecher Children's Hospital patients are currently treated at OHSU). Fellows also rotate on the Neurointerventional service, and on Vascular Surgery. The fellows are supported by three advanced practitioners (two for Body and one for Neurointerventional sections). Daily work conferences are supplemented by weekly didactic conferences and numerous multidisciplinary conferences and tumor boards. After2020, the VIR Fellowship will be replaced by an Independent IR Residency.
