Research
Today, 600 million Americans* suffer from neurological disorders – disorders that cause more hospitalizations and disabilities than any other class of disease, and that exact staggering financial, emotional and societal costs. Disorders for which there are no known cures. The OHSU Department of Neurology research programs and centers conduct some of the world’s most sophisticated bench research, seeking better treatments and, ultimately, cures for neurological diseases.
Many of these endeavors are carried out through its centers of excellence that serve as hubs of coordinated, collaborative research efforts that seek to quickly move laboratory discoveries to clinical trials. These centers cover complementary and alternative medicine, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, aging and Alzheimers disease, Parkinson's disease, stroke, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, and neuro-oncology, making OHSU’s Department of Neurology among the world leaders in neuroscience research, education and patient care.
