Aaron Caughey, M.D., Ph.D.

Professor and Chair, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

Associate Dean for Women’s Health Research and Policy, OHSU School of Medicine

In his clinical practice, Dr. Caughey has a special interest in Diabetes in Pregnancy. His research interests over the past decade have focused on utilizing a broad array of methodologies including standard biostatistical techniques as well as decision- and cost-effectiveness analysis to address questions in obstetrics and maternal-fetal medicine regarding post-term pregnancy, preeclampsia, and diabetes in pregnancy, obesity and weight gain, as well as prenatal diagnosis. 

Dr. Caughey grew up in South King County in Washington, and trained in Boston and San Francisco. He recently returned to the Pacific Northwest and to OHSU, in particular, because of the opportunity to lead a talented department and to impact women's health across Oregon. When he's not working, Dr. Caughey is usually playing with his three children or spending time at the theater or concert hall (watching or performing).

 

Karen Adams, M.D.

Vice-Chair of Education

Dr. Adams is a professor at Oregon Health and Science University, where she has been residency director since 2003 and Vice Chair for Education since 2008. She holds a certificate in medical ethics from the University of Washington and chairs the Ethics Committee of the American Medical Women's Association. Dr. Adams serves as OHSU's Women's Liaison Officer to the AAMC and as an oral board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She received the Faculty Mentor award from the 2005 OHSU graduating medical school class, the Outstanding Contribution to GME award in 2006 and 2008, the APGO Excellence in Teaching award in 2007, and the Gold Humanism Award from the 2008 OHSU graduating medical school class. She was one of four finalists for the Faculty Senate Teaching Award in the OHSU School of Medicine in 2007, and completed the APGO/Solvay Educational Scholar's Program in 2005. She has published extensively in areas of medical ethics and education, and has just completed a book, Keep Listening: The Gynecologist/Mom’s Guide to Helping Your Daughter Through Puberty. Her current research focuses on issues in professionalism in medical education.

Michelle Berlin, M.D., M.P.H.

Vice-Chair of Public Health, Policy and Community Service

Director, OHSU Center for Women’s Health

Dr. Berlin joined our faculty in 2001 and is an active researcher, clinician and educator. She is well known for her innovative approach to health care outreach, disease prevention and health promotion nationally and locally; current partners include the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Women’s Health and the Oregon Department of Human Services, and community-based organizations throughout the state. She served as a member of the Health Equities Committee of the Oregon Health Fund Board which helped develop the comprehensive reform proposal currently being considered by the Oregon Legislature. Dr. Berlin’s primary interests are in screening and prevention services for women, especially for minority and disadvantaged populations. Her work highlights economic, geographic, and racial disparities in women’s health, and she is a primary author of Making the Grade on Women's Health: A National and State-by-State Report Card projects. Dr. Berlin is Program Director of the OHSU Center for Women’s Health’s Policy Advisory Towards Health (PATH for women), focusing on health policy issues in women's health. She serves as a mentor for students, residents, fellows and junior faculty throughout the University.

Dr. Berlin's responsibilities include oversight of the Center of Excellence, outreach and collaborative partnerships, marketing, communications, educational classes, leadership development, and donor liaison with philanthropy development with the OHSU Foundation.

Jeffrey Jensen, M.D., M.P.H.

Vice-Chair of Research

Director of the Women’s Health Research Unit

Dr. Jeffrey T. Jensen, a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Stanford University, an M.D. from Emory University, and a Master of Public Health form the University of Washington. He completed residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at OHSU in 1988. After serving in the US Navy, he returned to OHSU and joined the faculty in 1992. His current holds the appointment of the Leon Speroff Endowed Professor and is the Director of the Women’s Health Research Unit. His federally-funded research program includes the NICHD Contraceptive Clinical Trials Network, and the NICHD Contraceptive Research Development Center at the Oregon National Primate Research Center where he is an Affiliate Scientist in the Division of Reproductive Sciences.
