Woodcock Lectureship

Herbert M. Woodcock, M.D.

Dr. Woodcock joined the OHSU Department of Psychiatry in 1969 and served on the faculty until his retirement in 1990. During his 21 years as a member of the Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Dr. Woodcock served as Chief, Consultation-Liaison Service (1969–1990), Director, Outpatient Clinic (1983–1990) and Consultant, Children's Psychiatric Day Treatment Center (1982–1999).

The Woodcock Lectureship was established in 1999 to honor Herbert M. Woodcock, M.D., Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry. The Lectureship recognizes Dr. Woodcock's devotion to teaching the principles of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy to the broad range of health professionals who are involved in the care and guidance of children, adolescents and young adults.

2016 Woodcock Lecture

Speaker: Dr. Trudie Rossouw, MRCPsych., M.D. (Res)

Dr. Rossouw is a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist and the lead clinician for an adolescent unit in the north east of London. She is the associate medical director for children's services and a qualified psychoanalyst. Dr. Rossouw's expertise lies in the area of adolescent self harm and personality disorder and she has conducted an RCT(Randomized Control Trial) testing mentalisation based treatment against treatment as usual. Dr. Trudie Rossouw published several papers and book chapters on the subject.

2015 Woodcock Lecture

October 2-3, 2015

CABANISS

Speaker: Dr. Deborah Cabaniss, M.D.

Associate Director of Residency Training, Director of Psychotherapy Training, Columbia University Department of Psychiatry; Director, Virginia Apgar Academy of Medical Educators, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Cabaniss' research interests primarily involve psychoanalytic and psychiatric education and she has authored many articles on this topic. She is the recipient of the 2014 Presidential Teaching Award for Outstanding Teaching from Columbia University. Dr. Cabaniss is also a two-time Teichner Scholar of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry and lead author of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: A Clinical Manual and Psychodynamic Formulation which have become core reading in psychiatry residencies throughout North America and are being translated into Mandarin, Korean, and Farsi.

Medical Research Council Fellowship, University College, London; Diploma in Clinical Psychology, British Psychological Society; CEO, Anna Freud Centre, London; Head of Department, Research Department of Clinical, Educational and Health Psychology and the Freud Memorial Professor of Psychoanalysis, University College, London; currently serving as Senior Investigator, British National Institute for Health Research; Visiting Clinical Professor, Harvard University; Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Yale University, School of Medicine; holder of numerous prizes, awards and other honors in the United Kingdom, USA and Israel; recipient of in excess of 50 research grants; authored or co-authored 16 books, nearly 400 original papers, including papers in press, over 200 book chapters. Professor Fonagy lives in London.
