First Intraoperative Electron Beam Radiotherapy Procedure in Oregon

OHSU Radiation Medicine performed the first intraoperative electron beam radiotherapy procedure in the state of Oregon.

OHSU Radiation Medicine performed the first intraoperative electron beam radiotherapy procedure in the state of Oregon. This joint effort between the deptartments of surgery and radiation medicine, took place in mid-November 2014 at OHSU Hospital on a patient with a locally recurrent tumor. 

The Mobetron was successfully used to deliver electron beam radiotherapy to the patient following resection of the tumor by the surgeon. The lead surgeon was Dr. Liana Tsikitis, associate professor of surgery, section of colorectal surgery. Ms. Dorothy Hargrove (Lead RTT) & Beth Kari served as the RTTs for this groundbreaking procedure. Ms. Susha Pillai is the lead physicist for the intraoperative radiotherapy program.
