Wendy McGinnis and Derek Zachman are recipients of grants from research awards from the RSNA Research & Education Foundation’s Research Medical Student Grant Review Panel. Both are members of the OHSU Radiation Medicine Student Interest Group.

Wendy, a graduate of Duke University, is enrolled in the MD program. Derek, a graduate of the University of Colorado, is enrolled in the OHSU Medical Scientist Training Program.
Wendy’s research grant proposal (RMS 1416) is titled, “Suppression of the T cell Response and Enhancement of Detrimental Effects of Radiation on the Brain”. Her mentorship/oversight committee includes co-scientific mentors, Drs. Michael Gough & Jacob Raber, plus clinical research mentor, Dr. CR Thomas,Jr.
Derek’s grant project (RMS 1436) is titled, “Mechanisms of Endothelial-dependent Hematopoietic Stem Cell Repair Following IonizingRadiation Injury”. His scientific mentor is William Fleming, MD, PhD.
Since 2007, Ms. McGinnis and Mr. Zachman are the 10th and 11th OHSU
Radiation Medicine Student Interest Group members to receive this form of competitive extramural funding prior to graduation from OHSU’s School of Medicine.
