Karen Brasel, M.D. receives Meritorious Achievement Award from ACS Committee on Trauma
On Friday, March 11, 2016, Dr. Karen Brasel was presented with the ACS Meritorious Achievement Award from the Committee on Trauma. The Meritorious Achievement Award recognizes a member of the ACS Regional Committees on Trauma for exceptional contributions to the care of the injured patient, and it has been presented annually since 1972. Each year, the Chiefs of the 17 ACS Regional Committees on Trauma are asked for award nominees. A ballot is then created and the Region Chiefs vote for a nominee to forward to the Committee on Trauma Executive Committee for approval. After that approval, the name of the winner is kept confidential until the ACS COT Annual Meeting each March, when the winner is announced and the award is presented. Dr. Brasel’s recognition is a reflection of the significant contributions she has made to the field of trauma surgery and her ongoing support of and involvement with the ACS Committee on Trauma.
Dr. Brasel is Professor of Surgery within the Division of Trauma, Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery, as well as the General Surgery Residency Program Director.
