Nutrition Oregon Campaign
Oregon is facing a health crisis with increasing rates of
obesity, uncontrolled blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. If we do not
intervene to reverse this epidemic of decreasing health, the impact will
be devastating to communities and the Oregon economy.
The Moore Institute is developing a plan for a statewide nutrition education and outreach campaign targeted toward community leaders. The campaign will use the tenets of the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD) as its foundation.
This project is bigger than any one group or community. We will be working to develop collaborations with groups around the state that are interested in moving this work forward. If you are interested to learn more about how you or your organization can get involved, drop us an email.
For more information about the planned campaign, check out this summary of the thought behind the campaign.Proposed plan
The six-month planning phase of the Nutrition Oregon Campaign included visiting communities across the sate to hear directly from them about the role nutrition plays in health and well-being of their area. It involved gathering information and ideas about how to develop a successful campaign, and it included testing ideas and messages with an advisory panel made up of the people we hope to work with during the campaign. The result is a full plan that details the intended goals, target audiences, messages and calls-to-action for a statewide campaign. If you don't have time to dive into the full plan, you can check out the executive summary instead.
Community listening sessions
We held listening sessions in Malheur, Klamath, Jackson and Lincoln Counties for groups to learn more about the campaign and share their perspective on nutrition issues in their local communities.
