Dr. James Boehnlein recognized for lifetime achievement in cultural psychiatry

James BoehnleinJames Boehnlein, M.D., professor of psychiatry, OHSU School of Medicine, received the 2015 Lifetime Achievement award from the Society for the Study of Psychiatry and Culture for outstanding and enduring contributions to cultural psychiatry. The award was presented at the Society's annual meeting in April.

Dr. Boehnlein is also a staff psychiatrist in OHSU's Intercultural Psychiatric Program (IPP), and associate director for education, VA Northwest Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC). IPP provides culturally sensitive mental health services for immigrant, refugee and ethnic communities with an emphasis on individuals and families whose first language is not English. MIRECC develops novel and improved treatments for major behavioral disorders afflicting veterans.

The Society is an international interdisciplinary organization devoted to furthering research, clinical care and education in cultural aspects of mental health and illness.
