Dr. Norm Cohen receives OSA Distinguished Service Award
October 20, 2016
The Oregon Society of Anesthesiologists presented its Distinguished
Service Award to Norm Cohen, M.D., professor of anesthesiology and
perioperative medicine, OHSU School of Medicine, earlier this month.
This award has only been presented to a select few individuals in the entire history of the organization. Dr. Cohen was recognized for his vision, passion and many years of leadership in the specialty of anesthesiology. Dr. Cohen is also medical director for clinical documentation and coding improvement – a recently-established position that focuses on improving clinical data integrity. Clinical data integrity refers to inpatient documentation and coding by OHSU clinicians.
Chris Swide, M.D. (pictured at right), professor of anesthesiology and perioperative medicine and assistant dean for graduate medical education, OHSU School of Medicine, presented Dr. Cohen with his award.
Since receiving the OSA award, Dr. Cohen has been notified he will be the 2017 recipient of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Distinguished Service Award, which is "the highest tribute the Society can pay to an ASA member. It may be given for outstanding clinical, educational or scientific achievement, contribution to the specialty and/or exemplary service to the Society." More information will be shared when Dr. Cohen receives the award in 2017.
