The missionary work of an OHSU School of Medicine alumna, Deborah Eisenhut, M.D. '81, has been included in Time's Person of the Year award.  

Dr. Eisenhut served as a medical missionary in Liberia earlier this year when the Ebola outbreak began. Read about her experience in this Oregonian article.

In December, Time awarded its prestigious Person of the Year award to "Ebola Fighters" – a group of Ebola first responders comprised of physicians, nurses, caregivers, researchers and program directors.  

Time highlighted Dr. Eisenhut's contribution in researching the disease, which had a direct impact on the treatment and protocols implemented at the first Ebola isolation unit in Monrovia, Liberia.

"The courageous work she and her team performed in caring for Ebola patients in Liberia is an inspiration to us all," said Mark Richardson, M.D., MBA, dean of the OHSU School of Medicine. "Her efforts played an important role in meeting the world's most critical and urgent health care needs."

Dr. Eisenhut is one of many OHSU School of Medicine alumni who volunteer to provide medical care abroad each year. Their contributions improve the lives of many around the world.
