June 13, 2016

Dear friends and colleagues:

Dean Mark RichardsonPlease join me in celebrating the School of Medicine’s Class of 2016! Yesterday afternoon, we graduated the newest group of phenomenal students at the all-university convocation and School of Medicine hooding ceremony. We came together, as faculty, mentors, family members and friends, to recognize the hard work and collective accomplishments of our newest graduates.

In our ceremony at the Oregon Convention Center, the university conferred 128 M.D. degrees (which includes five M.D./Ph.D. degrees and seven M.D./MPH degrees), 41 Ph.D.s, 148 master’s level degrees – including 42 MPAS – 82 associate’s and bachelor’s degrees and 78 graduate certificates in biomedical informatics, dietetics and other health care sub-specialties.

"With the degrees you earn today comes an expectation of commitment to your professions. You are entrusted with great privilege and responsibility."  -- Dean Mark Richardson

graduation 2016The School of Medicine has been producing outstanding graduates since 1887, and today, our 466 graduates of the Class of 2016 join that proud tradition.

We live in a time of rapid health care transformation. The students who graduate today will be practicing medicine and advancing scientific knowledge in 2050 and beyond. I'm confident that today's graduates will become leaders in a future health care system that needs their compassion, innovation and leadership.

I am pleased to welcome the Class of 2016 into our distinguished community of men and women who dedicate their lives to health and healing. We hope you will keep in touch and remain a part of the OHSU family of alumni throughout your careers.

Regards,
