Graduate Studies hooding

June 5, 2017

The School of Medicine wishes to congratulate all members of the Class of 2017! On Sunday, June 4, the school graduated its newest group of distinguished students at the all-university OHSU convocation and School of Medicine hooding ceremonies. Together, as faculty, mentors, family members and friends, we celebrated and recognized the hard work and collective accomplishments of our newest graduates.

In a ceremony at the Oregon Convention Center, the school conferred 136 M.D. degrees (which includes four M.D./Ph.D. degrees and seven M.D./M.P.H. degrees), 55 Ph.D.s, 177 master’s level degrees – including 42 M.P.A.S. – 75 associate’s and bachelor’s degrees and 76 graduate certificates in biomedical informatics, dietetics and other health care sub-specialties.

Dr. John Hunter"From the achievements of our newly minted scientists and physicians to the dedication of our faculty committed to passing on the best of what they know, we are a community of teachers, learners, healers and innovators. I could not be more proud of you or more grateful for my opportunity to spend the past year as your leader." — Interim Dean John Hunter | Read his message in full

The School of Medicine has been producing outstanding graduates since 1887, and now, its 508 graduates of the Class of 2017 join that proud tradition.

This class has been increasingly called to consider the role of physicians and scientists as advocates who bring to their work an understanding of the racial and economic disparities in health and health care. They have risen to this challenge with a strong voice that represents great hope for the future.

The Class of 2017 now joins an exceptional community of men and women who dedicate their lives to health and healing. Graduates: we hope you will keep in touch and remain a part of the OHSU family of alumni throughout your careers.
