Dr. David Lieberman is president of American Gastroenterological Association

Dr. David LiebermanDavid Lieberman, M.D., R '79 F '82, A.G.A.F., F.A.C.G., professor of medicine and head of gastroenterology and hepatology, OHSU School of Medicine, began his term as president of the American Gastroenterological Association in May.

Dr. Lieberman joined OHSU in 1976 as a house officer, completing his residency in internal medicine as chief resident in 1979-80, and staying to pursue a fellowship in gastroenterology. Dr. Lieberman has been a member of the OHSU faculty since 1982, and head of the GI Division since 1998. He directs several large clinical research studies. 

In a 17-page introduction of its new president, the AGA published quotes from many of Dr. Lieberman's colleagues, family and friends, including this one from Brian Fennerty, M.D., professor of medicine, OHSU School of Medicine:

"David has ably led our Division for the last 2 decades. David is a loyal friend. Despite personal events that could have profoundly affected my career, David's response to me was always: 'Let's do whatever works best for you.' The AGA has chosen wisely and the gastroenterology profession will benefit greatly under his stewardship."
