Dr. Richard Weleber recognized with Foundation Fighting Blindness award

Richard Weleber, M.D. '67 R '75, professor of ophthalmology, OHSU School of Medicine, was recently recognized with the Foundation Fighting Blindness' LLura Liggett Gund Award. A clinician-scientist with the OHSU Casey Eye Institute, Dr. Weleber has led groundbreaking work for more than four decades, including leadership of clinical trials for emerging retinal-disease therapies and innovations in retina imaging and functional evaluation.

The Llura Liggett Gund Award recognizes retinal scientists who have consistently made the greatest contributions to retinal degenerative disease research. Retinal degenerative diseases, including macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, Leber congenital amaurosis, Stargardt disease and Usher syndrome affect approximately 10 million Americans and millions more worldwide.
