Dr. Jackie Wirz appointed new assistant dean for Graduate Studies

The OHSU School of Medicine is pleased to announce that Jackie Wirz, Ph.D. '10, has joined the Dean's office leadership team as assistant dean for student affairs in the Graduate Studies program, effective July 18, 2016.

This new, part-time position will provide integral support and guidance for all students within the school's graduate programs. 

Dr. Wirz joins Allison Fryer, Ph.D., associate dean for graduate studies, on the Graduate Studies leadership team. "Jackie is a creative problem-solver and leader who is committed to the success of our students," said Dr. Fryer. "I look forward to working with her."

Dr. Wirz will focus on student advocacy and student progress. Her duties will include data gathering/dissemination, the creation and implementation of policies affecting students and student advising. Among her priorities will be building strong communities within graduate programs and leading and supporting diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Dr. Wirz will continue in her current roles as assistant professor in the OHSU Library and director of the OHSU School of Medicine's Career and Professional Development Center, which she helped launch in 2014. The center provides graduate students with services such as professional skill development and career planning. Throughout her career, Dr. Wirz has been deeply engaged in education, directing and teaching a variety of classes. She is an alumna of the school, earning her Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology in 2010.
