Analyzing populations to improve health care for individuals
Jennifer DeVoe, M.D. R ’04, MCR ’10, D.Phil., is an associate professor of family medicine in the OHSU School of Medicine. Her team of researchers studies the health of communities and disparities in health care. Their research is particularly interested in access to insurance and the effects of practice and policy interventions on vulnerable populations, including children and families. Learn more about Dr. DeVoe.

A founder of precision medicine
Brian Druker, M.D., is director of the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute. His goal for the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute is to advance the understanding of the biological precursors of cancer to better detect lethal forms of the disease at its earliest stages and develop precision medicines to treat it. Learn about what motivates this clinician-scientist, how he got into research and more. For further information, visit Dr. Druker's website.

Answering questions, finding treatments for genetic disorders
Markus Grompe, M.D., is a professor of pediatrics and molecular and medical genetics in the OHSU School of Medicine. Using advanced gene transfer and cell therapy techniques, his lab is researching the biological underpinnings of genetic disorders in children to lay the groundwork for better treatments of metabolic liver diseases, Fanconi anemia and others. Learn more about Dr. Grompe's work.

Looking for clues to arrhythmias and Sudden Cardiac Death
Beth Habecker, Ph.D. is a professor of physiology and pharmacology in the OHSU School of Medicine. Her team is working to understand the body’s remodeling of nerves following a heart attack in order to develop better treatments and prevention methods for those with heart disease. In this video, learn about her research, her thoughts on science and more. Learn more on the lab page.

Inventor of microbubble magic
Sanjiv Kaul, M.D., is co-director of the Knight Cardiovascular Institute and professor of medicine in the OHSU School of Medicine. His lab developed the microbubble-based myocardial contrast echocardiography (MCE) technique, a new way of using ultrasound technology to create images of the heart in order to provide earlier diagnoses and better treatment of those with heart conditions. Learn more about Dr. Kaul.
