Addiction Medicine

An integrated team of medical and mental health care providers can improve addiction treatment. The OHSU ECHO for Addiction Medicine helps medical providers in counties throughout Oregon develop integrated addiction medicine care teams in both primary care clinics and specialty clinics.

Addiction medicine expertise will be provided by two OHSU internal medicine physicians who are board-certified in addiction medicine, an Addiction Psychiatrist, a social worker who specializes in addiction, and a peer support advocate who is in recovery. The addiction medicine topics that will be covered during the 12 weekly sessions include the assessment of substance use disorder, safe use of medications to treat addictions, and coordination of mental and physical health services for people with substance use disorder. Guest speakers will address other evidence-based practices such as harm-reduction care and behavioral interventions.

The weekly one-hour video-conference sessions include case presentations and discussion followed by a short didactic portion. CME is available for each video-conference session from the OHSU office of CME.

Please note: The OHSU ECHO Addiction Medicine clinic is a project funded by a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
