Treatment Options
There are a variety of ways to treat trigeminal neuralgia (TN). The effectiveness of each treatment varies from person to person. If you try a treatment and it's not working for you, ask your doctor about other options.
Treatments for facial pain include:
- Medication
- Surgery
- Radiation therapy
- Electrical stimulation
- Heat or chemical treatment (radiofrequency rhizotomy or glycerol rhizotomy)
You also might seek complementary medicine (healthcare that is not standard care but can be used at the same time). Some complementary treatments for TN, often used along with medication, are:
- Acupuncture
- Chiropractic adjustment
- Self-hypnosis or meditation
- Biofeedback
- Vitamins
- Nutrition therapy
- Electrical nerve stimulation
