About the OHSU ALS and Neuromuscular Disease Center

At the OHSU ALS and Neuromuscular Disease Center, we are dedicated to providing you with the best care, education and support available. In addition to providing care and doing research, our experts train other physicians and healthcare providers, medical students and residents (doctors in training) about muscle and peripheral nerve disorders.

All our doctors are board certified neurologists (doctors who specialize in nervous system disorders) who specialize in neuromuscular (nerve and muscle) disease and electromyography.

Muscular Dystrophy Association Program

The OHSU ALS and Neuromuscular Disease Center holds clinics in association with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) program. This program takes a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders in adults and children. We bring together experts from every medical specialty to provide the best care.

OHSU hosts the MDA program for the Portland, Oregon, and southwest Washington areas. Our clinic staff includes neurologists, physiatrists, physical and occupational therapists, an orthotist and a representative from the MDA. Other OHSU clinics affiliated with the MDA program are genetics, pulmonology, cardiology and gastroenterology.

The MDA sponsors the Muscular Dystrophy Program and provides information and support for more than 40  neuromuscular disorders. The ALS and Neuromuscular Disease Center at OHSU is designated as an MDA Center of Excellence for its care for people with ALS.
