Quality Achievement Awards and National Benchmarks
Gold Plus Achievement Award for Quality in 2018, 2017 and 2016
The Oregon Stroke Center at OHSU has been consistently recognized for quality achievement by the American Heart Association. To receive the “Get With The Guidelines”—Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award, OHSU rigorously followed the treatment guidelines in the Get With The Guidelines—Stroke program for the past six years. These included aggressive use of medications like tPA, antithrombotics, anticoagulation therapy, VTE prophylaxis, cholesterol reducing drugs, and tobacco cessation. The Oregon Stroke Center continually reaches the 90% compliance level needed to sustain this award.
Outcomes
We are proud to report that our serious complication rates for interventional stroke procedures meet or are better than the national benchmarks established by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association. These interventional stroke procedures include diagnostic angiogram, a test used to evaluate the cause of stroke in some patients; carotid stenting, a procedure used to prevent stroke in some patients; and aneurysm coiling, a procedure to keep an aneurysm (a weak area in a blood vessel in the brain) from popping (hemorrhage).
