Clinical Collaborations

Clinical collaborations

As part of Oregon’s  only academic health center, the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute is uniquely  positioned to lead a statewide effort to create standards for cancer screening,  therapy and prevention. Together with regional clinical collaborations, we are  developing initiatives to help set and implement statewide standards for care  of cancer patients. We are also working on measures to improve public health  and advocate for more health-conscious public and corporate policies.

The OHSU Knight Cancer Institute understands  that the needs of each community vary, therefore collaborative agreements  between OHSU and our clinical partners differ. Currently, we have  affiliations with Salem Cancer Institute  (Salem, Ore.) and Legacy Health, (Portland Metro), a joint venture with Tuality  Healthcare (Hillsboro, Ore.) and collaborations withBay Area Hospital (Coos  Bay, Ore.) and Columbia Memorial Hospital (Astoria, Ore.).

Our goals

  • To improve the quality  of care for oncology patients, expand cancer prevention efforts and expand  access to multidisciplinary care for people throughout the region.
  • To improve patient  access to cancer care treatment, survivorship programs and resources and  clinical research.
  • To advance cancer  treatment through clinical trial development, data exchange and aggregation,  enhanced professional interaction, outcomes research, basic science  investigation, coordination of patient care, provider education and training  and use of new technologies.
  • To collaboratively  design and implement improvements in communication to facilitate physician  interactions and referrals between OHSU and facilities across the region for  the benefit of patients.
Our community physician  partners have access to the OHSU electronic medical record system (through OHSU  Connect), this allows easy access and sharing information to streamline patient  care.
