At Casey Eye Institute, we educate medical students, residents, fellows, practicing ophthalmologists, optometric physicians and other health care providers. Our ophthalmology residency program is among the most sought-after in the United States.

The School of Medicine, Oregon Health & Science University, is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Medical Students

Medical students interested in visiting Casey Eye Institute, the Department of Ophthalmology at Oregon Health & Science University, can find additional information through the OHSU School of Medicine.

Applications for clerkships for visiting medical students are submitted through the online Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS). Applications may be submitted starting May 1 for the next academic year. Final selection is completed after June 1. During the four-week Advanced Ophthalmology Clerkship, medical students gain experience in numerous ophthalmology subspecialties. For questions regarding ophthalmology clerkships please contact:

Graduate Students

Graduate students interested in biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, immunology and molecular biology are trained at the Casey Eye Institute. Interested students should apply via the Program in Molecular and Cellular Biosciences. At Casey Eye Institute, we are also committed to patient and community education. Through our seminars, continuing medical education meetings, educational literature and involvement in community and industry events, we help the public and the health care community learn more about new treatments and advances in eye care.
