Breast Lift
Over the years, factors such as pregnancy, nursing and gravity take their toll on a woman's breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity, breasts often lose their shape and firmness and begin to sag. A breast lift, or mastopexy, is an outpatient surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts.
A mastopexy can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. If your breasts are small or have lost volume (for example, after pregnancy), breast implants inserted in conjunction with a mastopexy can increase firmness and restore their size.
Liposuction
Despite a healthy lifestyle, many people still struggle with localized fat deposits that create disproportionate contours in areas of the body including thighs, arms, neck, hips, waist, back, chest and chin. Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, reshapes your body through the removal of excess fat. Liposuction is an effective treatment to eliminate fat deposits and also improves your body’s contour.
Depending on the area treated, liposuction can be performed either in a clinic setting with local anesthesia or in the operating room with general anesthesia. The length of the procedure will vary depending on the number of areas treated and the extent of the treatment required. Most patients can return to work in two to three days and resume activities as tolerated. As with any surgical procedure, complications may occur. These rare occurrences include bruising, infection, dimpling or asymmetry of the treatment site.
Liposuction is not a substitute for weight loss and will not treat obesity. The highly trained surgeons at OHSU will help decide which areas to target and the amount of liposuction that is best for you.
