OHSU Dental Clinics Patient Information

Become a patient

Patients seeking general dentistry services from our student clinics to meet their oral health needs should make an appointment for Admitting between 8:00 AM and 4:45 PM Monday through Friday by calling
503-494-8867.

Clinic hours: 8:30 A.M.-4:45 P.M., Monday-Friday

If you are interested in seeing our Faculty Dental Practice on the top floor of Skourtes Tower, call 503-494-4316. Our Faculty Dental Practice operates the same as a private dental practice with no separate screening visits, and comparable costs and treatment times.

Initial screening

The initial comprehensive oral health screening visit at our student clincs includes x-rays so that your overall health needs can be determined. This appointment could last up to 3 hours. Patients should come prepared to pay up to $87.00 for the initial screening exam and necessary x-rays. Patients that come to their appointment without payment will be asked to re-schedule.

If the patient has had a recent set of x-rays taken at another provider, the patient should bring a digital version on a disk, or have their prior provider contact for information on how to send images online.

Costs and insurance

OHSU Dental Clinics accepts most dental insurance plans, including Oregon State Medicaid/Oregon Health Plan and Washington State Medicaid/Apple Health. We cannot provide free care, but our prices are significantly lower than area private practices, making OHSU Dental Clinics a great option for patients without insurance or those who want to make their insurance dollars go farther. Payment is due at the time of service. We also offer payment plans through CareCredit.

Treatment

OHSU Dental Clinics offers treatment in three different settings, all within the same building. Treatment at the Comprehensive Care Teaching Clinic is provided by dental students under the supervision of faculty dentists and hygienists. Specialty dental treatment is typically provided by dental residents under faculty supervision. We also offer our Faculty Dental Practice, which operates like a private dental practice.

Not all patients are accepted for care at our student clinics, as the patient’s needs must be appropriate for student dentists to provide. If our teaching clinics cannot provide the care you need, you will be referred to our Faculty Dental Practice or another care provider in the area.

Referrals

If you have a referral from an outside doctor/dentist for a specific procedure, call or visit the page of the appropriate specialty clinic to set up an appointment.

Time commitment

We are primarily a teaching clinic. Our dentists-in-training work with experienced dentists to provide your care. This interaction and instruction time means that appointments typically take longer than at a normal private practice dentist. Admission Visits: Approximately 1-3 hours. Other Visits: 2-4 hours depending on needed treatments and procedures.

Parking

Free parking with validation is available in the parking garage located under the Collaborative Life Sciences Building for patients with dental clinic appointments. Patients may self-park or use the complimentary valet service. The parking garage is accessible off of SW Moody Ave. on the north side of the building at SW Meade St.  Patients should take a ticket upon entering the parking garage and bring the ticket inside to be validated by a front desk receptionist. The hourly parking rate for non-patients is $4. Note: Motorcycle and Oversized Vehicle Parking is located in a parking lot adjacent to the School of Dentistry. Patients should pull up next to the parking garage and let an attendant know they are a Dental School patient. A parking attendant will give the appropriate instructions and parking validation for these special parking spaces.

Childcare

There are no child care facilities at OHSU Dental Clinics. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times and cannot be brought into the clinic treatment area unless they are the patient.  Patients should bring a responsible childcare provider to supervise the child in the waiting room if a child must be brought to the patient's clinic visit. The appointment may need to be rescheduled if the patient fails to arrange for appropriate childcare when accompanied by a minor child.

Urgent care

The urgent care clinic provides services for patients who are not comprehensive or specialty care patients but require urgent care. Fees at the OHSU Dental School Urgent Care clinic can be up to $250 depending on treatment needed. Fees are due at time of service. If this is an option for you, the number is 503-494-8867. There are a limited number of appointments available Monday through Friday. Care is provided by dental students under the supervision of faculty dentists.
