Pediatric Dermatology

Pediatric Dermatology Fellowship

The pediatric dermatology fellowship program at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is affiliated with both the Department of Dermatology and the Department of Pediatrics. The program received accreditation in 2009 through the American Board of Dermatology. The staff consists of three full-time pediatric dermatologists and other faculty with specialized expertise who see more than 4,000 pediatric patients per year in the outpatient setting at OHSU University Hospital and OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital, and over 200 inpatient consultations annually.

The fellow will gain a wide experience with outpatient diagnosis and treatment, inpatient consultations, pediatric dermatologic surgery, dermatopathology, specialty collaboration, and clinical research. Areas of expertise include vascular anomalies, genodermatoses, atopic dermatitis, pediatric psoriasis, and laser treatment of vascular birthmarks. In addition to the clinical experience, fellows participate in a number of didactic sessions to supplement their learning. These include Grand Rounds in the Departments of Dermatology and Pediatrics, pediatric resident case presentations, clinical translational research rounds, and pathology sign-out. Teaching and research are integral components of the program and fellows are expected to participate in the teaching of residents and medical students and participating in a research project during their fellowship.

The pediatric dermatologists are involved in many aspects of pediatric dermatology research within the department. Areas of pediatric dermatology research include atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, vascular anomalies and hemangiomas.
