OHSU's Department of Dermatology doctors provide world-class expertise in treating and researching atopic dermatitis, or eczema, as it is commonly known.

The term eczema refers to a number of different skin conditions in which the skin is red and irritated and occasionally results in small, fluid-filled bumps that become moist and ooze. The most common cause of eczema is atopic dermatitis, sometimes called infantile eczema although it occurs in infants and older children.

OHSU Department of Dermatology features world-class atopic dermatitis expertise, as Jon M. Hanifin, M.D., professor of dermatology, and Eric Simpson, M.D., M.C.R., professor of dermatology, have been instrumental in understanding the clinical, biological and genetic aspects of atopic diseases. As such, the department offers numerous clinical trials each year.
