About Us

Treatment for cancer and blood disorders

We are the region’s only comprehensive center for childhood cancer and blood disorders

We are a nationally recognized leader in pediatric cancer, bleeding and clotting disorders, treatment and bone marrow transplant.

Each doctor in our center has focused expertise in different areas of our specialty, so your child can receive highly individualized care from true experts.

We have advanced technology and expertise

Doernbecher cancer experts partner with researchers at the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute to provide the newest and most advanced treatments in the effort to make childhood cancer a thing of the past.

We offer new hope through clinical trials

We are the only pediatric program in Oregon to conduct phase I clinical trials, which gives some children access to the newest treatments, because our physicians are national leaders in the search for new therapies for children's cancers.

Our center is an active member of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), an international research organization affiliated with the National Cancer Institute, devoted to creating new treatments and cures for cancers that affect children and adolescents. Our doctors have the expertise to help design these treatments and measure their results.

We are also the only Oregon member of the National Therapeutic Advances in Childhood Leukemia & Lymphoma (TACL) consortium and  the Pacific Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium (PNOC). TACL is comprised of a group of children’s hospitals and universities that work closely together to rapidly develop and carry out clinical trials. TACL develops clinical trials of new therapies and novel therapy combinations in recurrent childhood leukemia and lymphoma. PNOC is a network of 15 children’s hospitals that conduct clinical trials of new therapies for children with brain tumors. Our goal is to improve patient outcomes by turning the latest findings in cancer biology into  treatments.

We are family centered and kid friendly

We understand that kids need more than good medicine for healing. That’s why we also do everything we can for your child’s emotional, developmental and social needs, by providing support services to you and your family. We also know that you are your child’s most important source of support, and we encourage your involvement in your child’s care. Learn more about family centered care at OHSU
