Once Surgery is Scheduled

• Contact your insurance company regarding pre-authorization, and need for referrals, etc.
• Begin making arrangements for other family member’s needs during the surgery and recovery.
• Begin planning how you want to explain the procedure to your child.  Our Child Life staff can help you with this. You may also want to discuss as a family what you want to share with other family members, friends and neighbors.
• If your child is going to stay at Doernbecher for several days, you may want to contact their school to ask for homework assignments in advance.  Your child’s school can call Doernbecher’s Hospital School Program at 503 418-5444.
