Global Health Program

Working alongside the OHSU Global Health Center, we have developed a longitudinal global health curriculum that draws upon the expertise of faculty at OHSU and other national and international leaders in the field.  The mission of the OHSU Pediatric Global Health Program is to supplement and enrich the pediatric clinical, community pediatrics, and advocacy curriculum with opportunities in global health. The OHSU Pediatric Global Health Program endorses a broad definition of Global Health rooted in interdisciplinary collaboration to promote better health for all (Koplan, et al. June 2009).

OHSU Pediatric Residents have the opportunity to (1) participate in local interdisciplinary lectures and journal clubs, (2) learn from self-paced online modules and selected readings, and (3) rotate through local and international clinical sites tailored to their career interests. The Global Health Education Program is an optional supplement to OHSU's Pediatric residency curriculum for those residents with an interest in Global Health.

OHSU Global SE Asia

OHSU has a partnership with Bangkok Hospital and Siriraj Medical School and is working to develop sustainable education, research, and clinical initiatives and opportunities for resident exchange.

In addition, together with the Lao University Health Sciences and the US Department of Defense, OHSU is providing technical support to operate a Lao American Nutrition Institute (LANI) where leading clinicians, nutritionists, and researchers can train local nutrition experts to study and initiate new approaches to improve the state of nutrition in Laos for the years to come. By late 2017, the LANI will be open and we will work to develop opportunities for collaborative projects.

All residents that plan to travel have pre-travel orientation and post-travel debriefing with a focus on resident wellness.
