Bench-Bedside Research Seminar

Bench-Bedside Research Seminar

Our Bench – Bedside Seminars are science driven invited lectures by leaders in the field that introduce faculty, fellows and residents to cutting edge research with emphasis on translational impact.

Faculty interests, relevance to child health and impact of the science have generally guided our choice of speakers. Unlike Grand Rounds, the seminars are research driven, not clinical.

Location: With child health researchers spread across campus, the principal venue for the seminars will be University Hospital South UHS 8B60, central to both clinical and basic science audience.

Time/Day: We will have seminars from 12-1PM on the second Tuesday of the month (Schedule link for the academic year below), unless required to pick another time slot based on room reservations. We take an academic summer break in July and August.

Nominations: To nominate a speaker, send a link to the proposed speaker's website and their CV to Marika Fugate at . Our aim is to present a broad spectrum of science that spans disciplines with quality and diversity that will appeal to many. Once selected, the speaker will receive an official invite containing relevant details for the visit.

Hosting a Speaker: Host faculty have the opportunity to put together a day of one-on-one meetings for the speaker, host the seminar and a small dinner. Host and speaker will select faculty from within the Department and across OHSU to meet with during their visit. Most speakers stay in Portland for at least one night and are available for a social dinner with a small group of guests the evening before the seminar. Additional meetings with graduate students, post docs, residents or fellows can be a great addition. The seminar series coordinator Marika Fugate will make all travel and lodging arrangements, assemble the itinerary and accompany the speaker to some of the meetings with faculty during the day.
