Pediatric Otolaryngology Fellowship

The Oregon Health & Science University/Doernbecher Children's Hospital offers a one-year, intensive clinical pediatric fellowship program with training in all areas of pediatric otolaryngology, including cleft lip and palate, VPI evaluation and surgery, open airway reconstruction, cochlear implantation, chronic ear surgery, as well as training in the medical and surgical care of children with complex tertiary otolaryngologic problems.  OHSU is the only academic hospital in the state of Oregon, and receives patients from the entire Northwest region, Alaska and Northern California.  Doernbecher Children's Hospital is a 145-bed pediatric hospital.

The fellow is involved in all complex surgical procedures and is responsible for consultations in the hospital. The fellow also participates in specialty clinics, which include the Doernbecher aerodigestive clinic, craniofacial clinic, VPI clinic, cochlear implant team, and hemangioma vascular birthmarks clinic. A newborn hearing loss clinic will be set to start in 2015. He/she will be actively involved in all upper level pediatric otolaryngology cases. He/she will be responsible for two case review conferences each month, 1 grand round presentation during the year, and will participate in the resident education program. Optional rotations with other related services are available.

Many research opportunities exist. The fellow will have the opportunity to develop their own projects.  As one potential starting point, we have active, extensive databases in the fields of cleft lip/palate and craniofacial disease, pediatric sleep disorders, and hemangiomas and vascular malformations.

OHSU is located in Portland, Oregon. Portland and the Northwest region offers unparalleled proximity to the great out of doors, excellent fresh/local cuisine and the full breadth of cultural activities with the bonus of accessibility.
