Financial arrangements
OHSU's primary concern is what is in the best interest of the patient. As Oregon's only academic health center and a regional resource for health care services, patients come to OHSU from across Oregon, southwest Washington, western Idaho and northern California.
Most patients referred to OHSU Hospital and OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital, and OHSU's medical practices and services are expected to pay either directly or through health insurance. Patients are also responsible for paying professional fees in accordance with arrangements made with their attending physicians.
At the time of registration, patients may request an ability-to-pay assessment and financial screening.
Patients may receive multiple bills: one for hospital/clinic services and one or more bills for professional services from physicians, radiologists, anesthesiologists, etc. Patients with limited financial means who normally do not pay professional fees to physicians may be granted allowances, or be qualified for financial aid offered by community agencies or health care projects.
