Urology Residency Program

HedgesWelcome to the Urology Residency Training Program at Oregon Health & Science University. We are excited that you have chosen Urology as your specialty and are committed to providing the finest urologic training available. The Department of Urology teaching faculty consists of more than 15 academic and clinical urologists. Our specialists include nationally-recognized leaders in urologic oncology, stone disease, robotic and laparoscopic surgery, renal transplantation, infertility, erectile dysfunction, urodynamics, female pelvic medicine, incontinence, surgical reconstruction, and pediatric urology. A well-rounded experience in general urology complements training in sub-specialty areas. The result is a balanced education in both office-based and surgical urology. Residents who complete their urology residency are ready for careers in private practice, academic urology, and most go on to further sub-specialize with fellowship training.

Urology residents spend one year in general surgery and four years in urology. The first year internship is spent in general surgery at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital and affiliated Portland VA Medical Center. These rotations are under the direction of the urology residency program director and include general surgery, surgical rotations, critical care, vascular surgery, and/or trauma. The following four years of urology training take place at OHSU Hospital, the Portland VA Medical Center, Doernbecher Children's Hospital, and Kaiser Medical Centers. A total of six months of urologic research occur during the second and third years of urology training.

Our program attracts competitive candidates with outstanding qualifications from top training centers around the country. Each year we receive several hundred applicants for three incoming positions.

We look forward to receiving your application and wish you the best of luck.
