Remote Mindfulness-Education for Women with Provoked Localized Vulvodynia

The purpose of this study is to learn more about how to reduce the pain and emotional distress associated with Provoked Localized Vulvodynia (PLV). Specifically, we are interested in learning more about the effectiveness of an online remote program on pain, anxiety, depression and stress experienced by people with PLV. In previous studies conducted in the Program in Vulvar Health, we found that both Mindfulness-based Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Support-Group Education Seminars were effective in reducing the pain and stress associated with PLV. However, not all women could attend an in-person program. This randomized trial proposes to study the effectiveness of an online program by randomizing women to either education seminars or mindfulness practice combined with education seminars as a way to reduce the anxiety, stress, and pain associated with PLV.


Eligibility:

  • 18 years of age
  • Reported vulvodynia (pain with sexual intercourse) for at least 3 months
  • Access to phone and computer with ability to download applications
  • Reliable internet access


Compensation

Participants who have been randomized to the mindfulness practice + education seminars group will receive a debit card containing reimbursement for 2 months of the Headspace app, which is $26.00.
