OHSU Hospital receives prestigious national award for quality, safety

OHSU Hospital ranks 12th in the nation for superior performance in providing high-quality care, according to the 2017 Vizient Quality and Accountability Study, which awarded OHSU Hospital the Bernard A. Birnbaum, M.D., Quality Leadership Award.

Vizient share that OHSU "exemplifies a leadership style that is focused on results and a culture of collaboration and adaptability that is necessary to succeed during this time of uncertainty and change in the health care industry."

OHSU is Oregon's most admired health care company

The Portland Business Journal released their 2016 rankings of Oregon's most admired companies, putting OHSU first, Doernbecher Children's Hospital fifth, and the Knight Cancer Institute ninth in the health care category.

OHSU ranked as the third most admired company overall, after Nike and Columbia Sportswear.


US News: OHSU one of the most connected hospitals

OHSU has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the most connected hospitals. The Most Connected Hospitals 2015-16 list recognizes hospitals whose excellence in patient safety, patient engagement and clinical connectedness improves patient care.

U.S. News analyzed dozens of variables where electronic connectedness made a difference to patients. Hospitals that earned at least 70 out of 75 points in the 2014 IT survey or 55 out of 61 points in the 2013 survey and also achieved national ranking or high performing recognition in the current edition of Best Hospitals, Best Hospitals for Common Care or Best Children's Hospitals were recognized as Most Connected Hospitals.

In all, 159 hospitals made the Most Connected Hospitals 2015-16 list.

U.S. News Best Children's Hospitals 2017-18

US NEWS Best Children Hospital

Oregon Health & Science University Doernbecher Children's Hospital ranks among the best children's hospitals in the United States, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2017-18 Best Children's Hospitals.

The Best Children's Hospitals rankings highlight U.S. News' top 50 U.S. pediatric facilities in cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology and urology. Eighty-nine hospitals ranked in at least one specialty, based on a combination of clinical data and reputation with pediatric specialists.

 

 


OHSU receives Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award

Get with the ASA Stroke Guidelines
The American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association recognize OHSU for achieving 85% or higher adherence to all Get With the Guidelines Stroke Performance Achievement indicators for consecutive 12 month intervals and 75% or higher compliance with 6 of 10 Get With the Guidelines Stroke Quality Measures to improve quality of patient care and outcomes.

 

 

 


OHSU: A Leader in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Healthcare Equality

2016 Leader in LGBT Healthcare EqualityFor the sixth year in a row, OHSU has been recognized as a "Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality" by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the educational arm of the country's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization.

The findings were part of HRC Foundation's Healthcare Equality Index 2016, a unique annual survey that encourages equal care for LGBT Americans, and recognizes healthcare institutions doing the best work.

OHSU earned top marks for its commitment to equitable, inclusive care for LGBT patients, and their families, who can face significant challenges in securing the quality health care and respect they deserve.

OHSU was one of only six in Oregon to receive this honor. Awardees must meet key criteria, including patient and employee non-discrimination policies that specifically mention sexual orientation and gender identity, a guarantee of equal visitation for same-sex partners and parents, and LGBT health education for key staff members.


National Research Corporation Consumer Choice

The National Research Corporation again recognized OHSU Healthcare with its Consumer Choice Award for the Portland-metro area in 2016. The NRC surveys 250,000 households nationwide and uses this coveted award to recognize those hospitals consumers say have the best image and reputation, overall quality, doctors and nurses.

 

 


OHSU earns top honors for stroke care

Quickly administering the clot-busting, brain-saving drug t-PA to restore blood flow to the brain. Treating acute ischemic stroke patients with medications that prevent the formation of additional blood clots, when it's safe and appropriate, 100 percent of the time. Exceeding the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's quality measures 95 plus percent of the time.

These are a few of the reasons OHSU has earned top honors for its stroke care for the eighth consecutive year.

The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) presented the OHSU Stroke Center with its Get With the Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus award Oct. 22 in recognition of our excellent stroke care. The Gold Plus award is the top stroke treatment honor and recognizes hospitals who meet all seven Get With the Guidelines® Stroke Achievement Measures at least 85 percent of the time and five or more Get With the Guidelines® Stroke Quality Measures at least 75 percent of the time. And to get the gold, hospitals like OHSU must meet these standards for 12 consecutive months. As noted earlier, OHSU exceeded the AHA/ASA standards by achieving 95 percent or better compliance with these measures.

OHSU is proud to be designated a Magnet hospital. Just 6 percent of U.S. health care organizations hold this designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. It is the highest recognition a nursing program can receive.

Our Magnet designation also celebrates OHSU as an organization that attracts highly qualified nurses, physicians and specialists, fosters collaboration across disciplines and improves patient care through high standards.
