About the Dotter Institute

The Charles T. Dotter Department of Interventional Radiology, originally the Dotter Interventional Institute, was established by the Oregon State Board of Higher Education in April 1990, as an independent, freestanding division of the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine.

The Institute was charged with developing a multidisciplinary program in interventional therapy with emphasis on interventional education, research, and patient care.

As of July 1st, 2017, the Dotter Institute is now its own department within the OHSU School of Medicine.

The Charles T. Dotter Department of Interventional Radiology provides care to patients throughout Oregon and the northwestern United States including Alaska. The Institute also provides exclusive full-time service to Doernbecher Children's Hospital and the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center. In addition, the Institute works closely with the Shriner's Hospital of Portland to provide interventional services on a case-by-case basis.

The Department provides healthcare professionals and their patients with real-time visualization techniques to diagnose and perform minimally invasive treatments for specific conditions including: back pain, varicose veins, uterine fibroid tumors, narrowed or blocked vessels, certain cancers, aneurysms, vascular malformations and much more. Minimally invasive procedure performed under real-time imaging, allows for smaller incisions, have fewer risks of complication and take less time to recover compared to traditional surgery.
